Great all-encompassing guide. Very educational while not boring the reader. Works great as both a field guide and text book. Would have 5 stars if pics were in color, would make it a much better field guide for identifying plants!

Absolutely great. I was assigned this book for a field course and really enjoyed it!

This is a very handy book to have! I have become a master naturalist for the city of Fort Collins Colorado and this book has been so helpful, covering subjects that I'm weak on such as geology of the Rocky Mountains to enlightening me on the ecosystems that make up the Southern Rockies. Great book!

This is one of the best books about the natural history of the Rocky Mountains. Benedict is a lovely writer and makes her subject matter not just comprehensible (to a non-science person) but awe inspiring. If I owned just one book about the Rocky Mountains, this would be it.

If you only take one book along for your travels in the Southern Rockies, this is it. It's easy to find whatever you want to learn about geology, plants or wildlife through the well designed sections full of vivid details. Simply a great reference in field guide form, but with captivating prose that brings the region to life.
