Dating isn’t easy when you’re in the middle of a blood feud. This second adventure in the Drake Chronicles-told from both Logan's and Isabeau's perspectives-has all the same butt-kicking action, heart-pounding romances and snarky humor that readers loved in Hearts at Stake, as well as exciting new revelations about the vampire dynasties to keep readers coming back for more. There was a time when all Violet Willoughby could see were the ghosts that crowded her at every turn-standing outside of her bedroom window, whirling between couples at balls, and following her around the grounds of Lord Jasper’s extensive estate. I have 2 vices - golf and reading. Most paranormal novels do not cut the mustard with me. They have to have an unpredictable, well written plot intertwined with romance. I find Alyxandra Harvey to be a fantastic story teller. I've read 5 of her books and have not been disappointed in any of them.

If you liked Twilight, the Need series, or the Mortal Instruments/Immortal Instruments Series, you will also enjoy this series. I strongly recommend it.

I downloaded this without really reading what it was about when I saw it on the top free list and really liked that it was a vampire story and not just some romantic read that I normally boot off my kindle after a couple lines. I loved that I got all three books but would have bought the other two after reading the first. I really loved Lucy's character, funny. There are no great new twists on vamps, just a good interesting story for all of us who love this kind of story. Great YA series.

I really enjoyed following the lives of the Drakes and loved all of the little surprises that kept popping up. I know for sure that I will be getting the rest of the series because I am already needing to learn what is going to happen with the rest of the Drake family members.

This teen vampire drama is a good read for "Twilight" fans who want a little more character depth and a little less angst. I really enjoyed Isabeau's historic back story. I saw myself alongside her as she traveled through the outskirts of France, trying to avoid the guillotine. I even thought I could smell the Hell Blar. Ick.

Ruling Passion (The Drake Chronicles) is a set of three romantic stories involving members of a royal family of vampires and those that form a part of their world.

Amongst them are the many Drake brothers, the youngest and only daughter Solange Drake, and her human best friend, Lucy. Although vampires, the Drake siblings have only been recently turned, and are in some ways act like very ordinary teenagers.

Each story is told from the points of view of the two main characters, and it switches back and forth between them at each new chapter.

The romance is mild and safe enough for even the youngest of self-proclaimed young adults. And those who love gothic clothes and boys with old fashioned manners will get along with the author's world without any problems.

I however was very disappointed with this series. Maybe it's because they're teenagers, but the characters seemed very two dimensional to me. The only one that came to life to me the undauntable Lucy, and I didn't get much of her after the first story. The contrast between her and whiny Solange was so profound that I skipped chapters just to get back to Lucy.

There is satisfactory conflict that keeps the main romantic couples apart until the endings, but it wasn't utilised properly. The author failed to drive home the impact of the conflict to the reader (Conflict? What conflict?). The result was that I ended up bored. Very bored.

I wouldn't recommend this story to anyone. I feel dumber for having read it. Nevertheless some young girls out there would love this sort of thing, and far be it from me to warn them off something a lot safer than the the fiction published on the internet for free. Enjoy.

I've read my fair share of vampire romance novels, most notably the Twilight Saga, but also the House of Night Series, Vampire Diaries, and the Blood Coven Vampire series. So, I was excited when a friend told me about this series. However, after I purchased it for my Kindle and actually started reading, my feelings drastically changed.

I felt from the beginning that certain aspects of the story were incredibly predictable. For example, the main character Solange has seven older brothers. Despite the fact that they all annoy Solange's best friend Lucy, and two of them try to leave her at a party in harm's way. Yet, Lucy only gets angry and smacks ONE of them. Not to mention that the two of them bicker on every page and instantly start staring at one another. Thus, there is NO mystery as to whether the two of them will get together.

Another annoying aspect was the inclusion of "vampire history" at odd moments. The history is meant to enrich the story, and it does. In fact, Alexandra Harvey should be commended for her creativity at developing such an extensive history. However, the placement of this history within the plot feels awkward and contrived.

There are other parts of the story, such as a treaty between a vampire-hating organization and the anti-human vampires, that just seem to be taken from other stories.

And my absolute biggest complaint about the story is that the Drake family has hired assistants, body guards, investigators, researchers, etc. So why is it that when a young slayer, Kieran Black, attempts to attack the family, TELLS THEM HIS NAME, and manages to get away, the investigators are at a loss to find him. But Lucy, a fifteen-year-old girl, is able to track him down because his number is listed! Really? I would sincerely hope that your professional investigators would be able to track someone down before a teenager, ESPECIALLY if his number is listed. Otherwise, what are you paying them for?

Thus, although aspects of the story are interesting, I did not feel that it compensated for all of the errors and issues within.
This series is perfect for fans of vampire novels who are sick of spineless lead characters a la Twilight. I read the first three books in two days!
