Life in the desert is interesting. She even enjoys four seasons there-hot, cold, hotter, and windy. In the desert, those do count as seasons. Wonderful and fanciful. Just enough of reality mixed in with the fantasy. The characters are sweet and unforgettable. This story shows how fear of the unknown can rule people's hearts and how God's love and the faith and trust of His people can overcome that fear. All this woven into a story with some mystery and history of the past. The second book was as good as the first. They can be read as stand alone but go together much better.

This sequel to Shadows and Secrets continues with Philip approaching the end of his apprenticeship while Lord Morgan and Brother Clarke make plans for his future. Dove is trapped in the caves during a blizzard and has adventures of her own. Reunited, the two friends meet some unusual people and learn how those who are feared because they are different can also fear those who are different from them. Philip and Dove demonstrate bravery and loyalty in gifting Lord Morgan and their new friends with gifts they desired. Lord Morgan guesses Dove's secret and assures her of acceptance from his family.

This is a great sequel to the first book. It delves more deeply into the themes of the first book yet brings up new issues to be explored.

The sequel to Shadows and Secrets, adds creatures and places to the land of Wynnewood. Philip must find out what happened to Dove after she disappears, but in the process goes on a quest to find something that is only legend. A good book for readers 9 years up old and up. Thomas, 14.

From the Mom: I appreciate this book because it is fantasy book, which my children like, but it has no sorcery or magic in it. There are Christian themes throughout the book that only add to the story and are not a distraction. I would recommend it to others and we have bought the series to give as gifts. My husband, who is a self proclaimed map geek was blown away by the map in this book. Susan - Mom

"Cloaked in Secrets" was published on 2010. The book contains 30 chapters and is 298 pages in length. It also includes a beautiful map of the location in the tale. Cloaked in Secrets is the second of the three part Wynnewood series.

The Story:
"Cloaked in Secrets" continues the story of Phillip, Dove and their companions as begun in the first book, "Shadows and Secrets". Lord Morgan has always dreamed of owning one of the legendary unicorns, so Phillip and Dove start on a quest to surprise him by finding one. But when attempts to capture the timid creature find Dove and Phillip fighting for their lives, will the search prove worthwhile in the end?

I think my favorite character in this series so far, is Phillip. His constant attempts to quell his pride and to share his love of the LORD with Dove, are inspiring.

Conclusion:
I read this book aloud to my sisters and we all enjoyed it. My sisters were always begging me to continue reading and never wanted me to stop. The story is riveting and suspenseful, leaving the reader (or listeners!) anxious for the next in the series.

I enjoy reading a blend of history and the myths that developed throughout time. This series is not just for young adults or teens. I found these stories to be enjoyable and well written. Each of the characters were developed so that you knew exactly who they were as individuals, what they believed in and how their beliefs developed. The characters blended together in a true sense of what friendship and community should be. My thanks to the author for her obvious respect for the WORD.
My children and I really enjoyed this series as a family read aloud.
