One of the first fly tying books I ever got was Mike Dawe's "The Flytiers Manual". The recipe for this fly came from Mike Dawe's "Flytier's Companion", which is UK based. I loved the combination of colors and the mallard flank sides. I think I got it for Christmas one year from my Mom. I was a little disappointed at first because it was UK based and seemed "different".

I saw the original book a few days ago. My fly tying instructor said it was his favorite book. With good reason too. However, this book seems fraudulent. The photos are photocopied so you cannot see any colors in the photos. Everything is muted. Even the writing! The green ink has bled onto all the pages and it is horrible. If you find a real copy of the book then it is a fantastic book. Just do not buy the spiral bound book because you will be completely disappointed.
