In this book, author Paul Roland examines a fascinating assortment of recorded sightings from as far back in history as Roman times.

In this book, author Paul Roland examines a fascinating assortment of recorded sightings from as far back in history as Roman times. A comprehensive exploration of the realm of the supernatural, from ghost ships and poltergeists to out-of-body experiences and the idea of spirits as the manifestation of people still living, The Complete Book of Ghosts will challenge your beliefs and preconceptions as never before.

That isn't to say "The Complete Book of Ghosts" doesn't cover a broad range of ghostly phenomena. Roland covers the Fox sisters and the paranormal activity of that day. However; Roland only gives less than one page to fakes and frauds. The book briefly touches on spirits from several religions. Finally, the book covers the tv show "Most Haunted" and explains the tools and techniques needed for your own ghost hunts. It was a fun read, but it promised so much more.

I like the book "The Complete Book of Ghosts" because it has actual facts and it has evidence that we live . Same as the uncountable other books on this subject, Paul Roland's Complete Book of Ghosts is not a definitive work.

I like the book "The Complete Book of Ghosts" because it has actual facts and it has evidence that we live with the ghost with out even know it. There are many storys about them and theres also many pictures that people have taken and some that have been made after what they saw. one of the moust convincing evidence of the soul's survival after they die is soul tolking it shows that there are many spirits thet stay alive after they di. fter all of the storys there you will.

I love a scary ghost stroy. These are the scariest stories I have ever read. Esspecially the part about the blood castle in the British Iles. Wait till you read that. I also like the part about outer body experiences. I always wanted to experience one of those.

This is a good one--much better than most in the genre. Doesn't have the feeling of "made up over a couple of beers" that too many ghost books have. Intelligent!

I bought it for my grandchildren , but I found it a little too grown up for them .

So I will get round to reading it myself .

I guess that my first problem with the book would be the title. If it is "The Complete Book of Ghosts" it should be ... well ... complete. I think that a better, and more accurate, title would be a "concise book of ghosts."

That isn't to say "The Complete Book of Ghosts" doesn't cover a broad range of ghostly phenomena. The book briefly touches on spirits from several religions.

"In Buddhism, the personality is believed to dissolve at the moment of death leaving only pure consciousness (rupa) to seek a new body unless the individual was an enlightened soul (bodhisattva) in which case it can ascend to the higher states of being and there choose when to intervene in the lives of the living as a guiding spirit. However, those individuals who are as yet unable to free themselves from earthly attachments may descend into the realm of the hungry ghosts, the Buddhist equivalent of the Christian Hell."

Sadly, that chapter was only eight pages long. Hardly what I would call complete. Having said that, the material is very interesting.

"THE MODERN PREOCCUPATION with the paranormal could be said to have begun in 1848 with the publication of The Night Side of Nature. The Victorians were avid readers of ghost stories, but they bought this collection in unprecedented quantities because its author, Scottish novelist Catherine Crowe, appealed both to their romanticism and their reason. Her obvious delight in describing Gothic horrors was balanced with rigorous research. Each episode was backed up by witness statements, documents and dates to reinforce the author's belief that the supernatural was as worthy of serious investigation as the natural sciences. Her view was that the scientific establishment was arrogant and presumptuous in stating that all paranormal phenomena were the result of hysteria. It was her contention that the majority of scientists `arrange the facts to their theory, not their theory to the facts'."

I did enjoy reading about some of the early Spiritualist
movement. Roland covers the Fox sisters and the paranormal activity of that day. However; Roland only gives less than one page to fakes and frauds.

Finally, the book covers the tv show "Most Haunted" and explains the tools and techniques needed for your own ghost hunts.

It was a fun read, but it promised so much more ...

A bit different from the previous books on ghost's I have read, but I loved it. It's a great look at the paranormal.

This book didn't just give you a general look at ghosts. It went deep-into specifics. It mentions famous ghosts, celebrities experiences. In fact, I'd say this book was a fun read. It was unique, if you will. Of course any ghost book would be unique, but the was the epitome of unique. It took a dark subject and made it fun.

Alright, so I can say that I agree with one of the reviewers that it wasn't the complete guide, but it was pretty dang close.

I recommend this to all you ghost hunter and to any one who is curious.
I bought the paperback version of this book. I wish I had purchased the Kindle version because the print in the print version is so small that I can't see to read it. I have no idea whatsoever if it is a good, great or horrible read because I can't read it. I understand trying to save space, but it is taken to insane proportions in this case.
I will say that I did not buy from Amazon so they can not be held at fault for me being stuck with a book that I will have to scan to my computer and enlarge if I decide to try to have a go of it in the future. Just another reason to buy from Amazon because they have great customer service.
I gave the book one star, because the site wouldn't let me post a review without rating it. Ignore my rating. I can't really rate what I can't read.
