I read this book when it first came out and remembered the story. I still enjoyed it this time around!!!!
I liked the book and recommend it. The main characters have good chemistry and good dialogue, but it is a little thin on the storyline. With that said, it is still a keeper for me.
I love this story. I had been trying to find this book for quite some time. I'm glad that I found it at Amazon.
Terese loved her stepfather dearly, and it was a dreadful shock when she learned that he had only a short time to live. Certainly she would have done anything to spare him any further tragedy - so when the imposing Manuel Delgado told her that he intended to sue her stepfather for fraud, she was prepared to do just about anything to prevent it.

Even to marry Manuel - which was, it appeared the price he was asking. And he also made it clear that the marriage would not be in name only. How could she go through with it? And why was Manuel so insistent, when it was obvious that more than one woman would be only too willing to become his wife?
Old school angst fest.

Terese has schlepped off to Manuel's abode to ask for forgiveness for her stepfather. While driving under the influence, his car malfunctioned and he ended up killing the H's brother and nephew. After this horrific incident, does the heroine grovel, ask for clemency, throw out the soft soap? Heck no, our feisty little spitfire barges into his home and forces a confrontation to explain why her step-father should not be charged. Her response to his questions really sweetens the pot

...'You're incredibly rude and arrogant, and you have less compassion than—than I find you utterly despicable!'

Yeah, that would not have been my approach if my father, step or otherwise had KILLED two family members of the man I am asking for clemency. Manuel does the only reasonable thing possible. He blackmails her into a life for a life. They will marry and she will bear him many sons. This all happens in the first eight pages.

From there, Manuel takes over Terese's life uber alpha style. He monitors her every move from visiting her step-dad to friends. Toss in an evil woman that Manuel makes clear he can not stand but is after him anyway, and his adorable orphaned moppet niece who is sidelined by living in a convent during the week.

Sex scenes are almost always preceded my teeth clenching, arm grabbing then fade to black followed by the heroine waking in shame.

I kind of had to trudge as it is really a paint by the numbers Harlequin. I get the feeling that this may be one of Helen Bianchin's first attempts at is very...odd. Not the least are when Helen writes Manuel's dialogue in Spanish. No bueno and a little demeaning.

The setting is Australia, but she pulls out the tropes and Harley-Land assumptions of an alpha Spanish lord. One cute scene is when Terese says she is going to learn Spanish so she's know what sweet nothings he saying to her in Spanish, and he says he'll just say them in Portuguese. Need I say that Manuel is head over heels for our little fire ball.
