The book won Schleiermacher a national reputation. Schleiermacher died in 1834. Schleiermacher argues for a strong dependence of the soul (or mind) on the body, and indeed for their identity. In the same year (1799) he also published an essay on the situation of the Jews in Prussia, Letters on the Occasion of the l Task and the Open Letter of Jewish Householders. As can be seen even from this brief sketch of his life and works, a large proportion of his career was taken up with the philosophy of religion and theology.
