If employees become too discontent, they may go on strike. Offering perks rather than a salary increase can be a way of retaining employees in traditionally high staff turnover industries. Most people like to have control over their work and therefore put autonomy near the top of their list of motivating factors. Dealing with bureaucracy is a very time-consuming, demotivating problem with affects large businesses and organisations. One way for managers to monitor and develop staff is by using appraisal interviews. He received a very generous golden handshake when he left the company.
But the industry doesn’t generate that many jobs. Productivity in domestic work doesn’t grow quickly. The growing awareness of robots’ impact on the working class raises anew a very old question: Could automation go too far?
