Jean Stern is the executive director of The Irvine Museum. She contributed to the book Enchanted Isle: A History of Plein Air Painting in Santa Catalina Island and has written for magazines such as American Artist and Workshop. An authority on California Impressionism, he coauthored California: This Golden Land of Promise and has contributed to several books about California artists. He also appears in the PBS documentary series Impressions of California: Early Currents in Art, 1850–1930. Molly Siple is an artist member of the California Art Club.

In 2002, the Irvine Museum organized "Masters of Light," the first and to date only exhibition of California Impressionism to tour Europe, with venues in Paris, Krakow and Madrid. In December 2016, The Irvine Museum became part of the University of California, Irvine (UCI). It is now known as The Irvine Museum Collection at the University of California, Irvine
