The First Air War: 1914-1. has been added to your Cart. I appreciated the fact it didn't focus on the aces and the fiew big air battles. But ist just seemed to lack depth
The First Air War: 1914-1. Mr. Kenneth details the history of how a few planes in 1914 became armies in the sky. He shows how airplanes developed from being "eyes in the sky" to be flying soldiers who used machine guns and bombs to carry the fight to the enemy. He concentrates on the big picture which is both the strength and weakness of this book. But ist just seemed to lack depth. I think the author had the material to make an excellent book. I think it needed to be fleshed out a lilttle more.
His finest book on the subject is this, the first volume of The War in the Air, which was an instant publishing success. Unfortunately the projected second volume was never completed as Raleigh died from typhoid (which he contracted during a visit to the Near East) in 1922. Nonetheless, Professor Sir Walter Alexander Raleigh has attained classic status as a result of this mighty work and this legendary volume ensures his status as a military author par excellence.
