Judas Gate, by Jack Higgins, is one of the dullest, so-called action books I have read. What began as an intriguing, action-filled series staring Sean Dillon has deteriorated into little more than a tale of tedious plotting, endless talking, and almost constant drinking among characters who have lost their individuality. I wonder how the special unit headed by Ferguson can get anything right with all they drinking they do. I also wonder how Shamrock, the Irish-born villain, can plot anything wit Judas Gate, by Jack Higgins, is one of the dullest, so-called action books I have read.

Jack Higgins The Judas gate WASHINGTON, . Читать онлайн The Judas gate. Sean Dillon stepped out on to the terrace, glass in hand, and joined them, his fair hair tousled and his shirt and velvet cord suit black as usual. THE OVAL OFFICE1 The Washington day in August had been almost subtropical, but by late evening an unexpected shower had cooled things. The Hay-Adams Hotel was only a short walk from the White House, and outside the bar two men sat at a small table on the terrace, a canopy protecting them against the rain.

The Judas Gate is right at the top of the list of the worst books Jack Higgins has ever written. Jack Higgins brings back his band of counterterrorists, Charles Ferguson, Sean Dillon, and others to keep the Queen and country safe. The characters have lost all individuality, the action somehow manages to be dull, the plot developments are predictable and the settings in the book are all recycled from prior books, asides for the brief introduction of a few scenes in. This time the book's theme is on home grown terrorists that have embraced the philosophy of Osama Bin Laden that the only good westerner is a dead westerner. I've just had Sean Dillon on the mobile. He's been to see Mickeen in the hospital in Belfast. He says he's coming down to see me this morning to discuss what's going to happen to the garage.

General Charles Ferguson, Commander of the British Prime Minister's private hit squad and adviser to the new president of the United States, has been given a disturbing recording from Afghanistan, on which the murders of American Army Rangers and a British medical team are recorded. About half of the Taliban force voices on the tape are British. One authoritative voice is Irish; code name: Shamrock.

Shocked that one of their own could be responsible for a massacre, General Ferguson tasks Sean Dillon with hunting the traitor. But even as Dillon goes to war, the war is coming to him...

My fiancé is in jail and found a jack higgen book in the library. Only one. He was hooked. He loves the style of writing used and the flow of the story lines. He appreciates that the main character is in every book and it downs truly matter which book you pick up next! He has read over 6 books that I have ordered for him and still wants more. He has had a hard time find good authors in the past but something truly resonates with him with jack higgens

The book was ... maybe OK if you are a Higgins fan. I enjoy his stuff, but his knowledge of weapons and armor for his characters seems to end in 1945. EVERYONE seems to carry a Walther PPK, which was fine in it's day, but is now an obsolescent gun chambered for an underpowered cartridge. The backup pistol is inevitably a Colt .25 semi-automatic, a pistol not manufactured aince the 40's in a dreadfully weak caliber. The Wilkinson Sword Nylon-Titanium vest was issued by the RAF in WWII and dropped because of excessive bulk. Noise suppresse4rs (silencers) are VERY bulky, yet peope blithely use them in ankle holsters (maybe knee holsters).

It's sort of like Superman stories. IF you suspend disbelief they can be fun; otherwise not.

I am amazed how Higgins cranks out so many books and all of them capture the reader's interest. The Judas Gate was no exception. The pages were turned with unusual speed. A contemporary plot was introduced to the reader; however, we were able to renew our acquaintance with Higgins' familiar cast of characters--Ferguson, Dillon, et al. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Higgins is a great story teller. He establishes his characters early, especially the new ones. I feel that I've know his older character all my life. I was just sorry that he had to kill off the female detective. She was a claming effect on Sean. Higgins established a great relationship between them, that at times, I at least, that left me wondering if the relationship was more the just professional.

Higgins does it again.

Jack Higgins' character Sean Dillon and crew always provide excellent reading and The Judas Gate is no different. Once the book is started, it is very hard to lay it down for any reason until it is completed. Readers won't be disappointed that's for certain. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series....

I thoroughly enjoyed everything I've ever read from Jack Higgins. His plots are great and he has developed a wonderful cast of recurring characters.
Jack Higgins is a great storyteller and that's all I expect from a novelist. I'm not into "deeper meanings."
As always Jack writes and interesting story. Haven't miss a story in all of Jack's books. You can't go wrong when Jack writes about Sean and the crew. My public library is full of the Higgins novels I have read over the years. Keep up the great work.
