For Aunt Mary, with love and thanks for the Kimpton family memories. With thanks to my wonderful agent Jessica Faust for her encouragement, support, and her great ideas. I swear your grandmother has a better social life than you do.

A Good Day to Pie book. No one can die from a pie.

I craned my neck but I couldn’t see who’d come in. Who was the deputy who couldn’t call Sam on his cell phone? How bad was the news that he had to come in person? If I was his deput. ut I wasn’t. I was having a few words with Gay about her photos of my pie contest when Sam stuck his head in the door and motioned to me. I excused myself, grabbed Grannie’s precious envelope and met Sam and his deputy-a tall, lanky young man-in the hall. My stomach was churning

O.K. I'm always looking for a new series with Recipes and I love Pie so I downloaded this to my new Kindle. First I was put off by the name Hanna?? Different spelling but since there already was a very popular series with the name Hannah you would think the author could be a little more original. I really felt this was weak for a first book, but then most of them are, so will look for improvement going forward. And I really got tired of Sam showing up and saying the same thing. Let's at least show a little more interest and less lecturing. The recipes sound wonderful and the food descriptions made me hungry so will read the next one. Needs work on the characters

This book is the debut of a new mystery series that I will certainly continue to purchase and read with enjoyment.

Hanna Denton, is the new owner of her Grandmother's Pie Shop, in her hometown of Crystal Cove, CA. The Upper Crust sounds just like the old bakery of my youth, only it specializes in pies. I adore that the pies are now expanding into fruit and savory. Why? Because, Ms. Culver tantalizes us with recipes for us to try on our own. The 'Hanna's Black-Bottom Raspberry Cream Pie' has me in transports.

Oh, the murder? Right. There is one and it happens at Grandmother's retirement community while they are playing Bridge. Someone vandalized Hanna's "Cranberry Walnut Cream Pie" and made it to 'die for.' Shocking but what a way to go!

Hanna isn't the only person returning to town, the New Police Chief, is the former bad boy of Hanna's high school days. Only, she knows the truth about his leaving...you must read to find out.

Hanna decides to aid the police force and find the killer herself when Grandmother is implicated in the crime. As she attends funerals, sex-toy parties, swimming aerobics, and even Bridge games, Hanna will find the truth and proof needed to put the true criminal behind bars.

There are other crimes being committed during the search and keeps this book jogging along. A very good read.

I just got this book and I recommend you get yourself a slice of pie and a glass of milk before reading. Besides a witty mystery surrounding the pie baker and her grannie, there are great recipes! Of course there is added romance with an old flame now the investigating cop. Raspberries are in season and so is this first mystery by Carol Culver!

THis book was not horrible but was about 100 pages too long. How many times did we have to read the same argument between our protagonist and the chief of police? "..stay out of my investigation" ".. I can't. I must prove my granny's innocence..."ad naseum. The book started out with a promise of lost love/secrets of the past between the heroine and the police chief. Hints were made about a major incident that happened back in high school. But when the big secret was finally revealed, it was summed up in a paragrah and was just no big deal at all. It was disappointing.

It's a great book, keeps your interest and has you guessing the "who done it" part. However, there are several lines missing in the book. When I "turn the page", the top of the next page is missing at least the first line. This is throughout the whole book, so was very disappointed as I had to figure out the end of the word and then "fill in the blank" to the rest of the sentence.

I had a diffcult time reading this book. I didn't find any of the characters particularily likable. Also, the writing style was slow at times and I got a bit bored of her moping for her Granny and remembering her Granny and moving her Granny's picture and using her Granny's receipes. Also, I didn't find her friend very humorous and I'm guessing she was suppose to be the witty sidekick. The writing seemed to repeat more often than not along with alot of the same banter between characters. The cause of death and reason for the death was rather lame.

I enjoyed this book and I'm glad I read it. I accidentally purchased it thinking I was buying something else. I will read other titles by this author.
I like cooking mysteries, but I thought this one dragged somewhat. I had not read Carol Culver before, so will probably give her another chance
