As a lay person trying to find balance in my life in an impossible job situation, this book is full of great insights, research, and advice.

The Making of a Corporate Athlete reminds us about balance in all 4 spheres of life -- physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. It makes a very important point that is easily overlooked in a quick read and easily forgotten in the heat of the work day -- oscillation. Get away from the drive, drive, drive that most managers think brings them success. Take a break, divert, then return. The diversion time will pay dividends during your focus time.

The Human Moment article is fantastic and points out the importance of face time every day in our techno age of e-mail, text messages and phone calls. This is another critical diversion to make us more effective at other work.

The article on ADT is terrific. It tells how to avoid the environmentally-induced mental trauma of overloaded brain circuits not unlike ADHD.

This book is a fast read and a great book to pull out at least once a year and re-read. I highly recommend it.

This book had a lot of healthy strategies for bringing your whole self to work and a lot of good information for a lay person. I'm a psychologist, so much of it was basic information for me.

As a dedicated knowledge worker, I'm always concerned about learning best methods that can help me deliver best performance at work.

Most of the articles in this book are inspiring and provide practical, down-to-earth suggestions to keep you energized, motivated, and performing at your best.

I was greatly touched by the two articles at the start of the book by Edward Hallowell and still encourage my colleagues and friends to read them. The context into which Dr. Hallowell puts his advices is very realistic and leaves you thinking deeply about your work practices and how you should monitor and control your daily load and communication style.

The Making of a Corporate Athlete by Tony Schwartz and Jim Loehr nicely confronts the common misconception of peak performance as sheer brainpower. Alternatively, the authors go and build their science-based view of peak performance as a 4-tier pyramid with physical well-being constituing its foundation. Above that rests emotional health, then mental acuity, and at the top, a sense of purpose which will be the ultimate source of motivation and determination. It's really awesome in this article how things are compared to what world-class athletes do!

In Leading by Feel, eighteen leaders and scholars explore the nature and management of emotional intelligence: its sources, uses, and abuses. They share their insights through "mini articles" with dramatically different responses which lay an eye-catching mosaic for the various aspects of this double-edged capability and the importance of honing one's skills.
