Now you can teach financial accounting from both a user's and preparer's perspective with a wealth of actual examples, cases, and real financial statements found in Gibson's FINANCIAL REPORTING & ANALYSIS: USING FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING INFORMATION, Twelfth Edition. This effective text emphasizes the analysis and interpretation of the end result of financial reporting--financial statements. The author focuses on the language and preparation of financial statements throughout. Students analyze real financial reports, 10Ks, proxy statements, other exhibits, and cases drawn from actual companies. Nike, used as a continuing focus company throughout the text, provides the opportunity for students to become familiar with a single organization and better understand the meaning of its statements within a competitive context. The new edition includes updated and expanded discussions about GAAP Codification, IFRS, Fair Value, and the impact of the recent financial crisis. In addition to a wide variety of problems, questions, cases, and Web references for practice and application, students have access to the robust Thomson ONE: Business School Edition--the same online financial analysis tool used by Wall Street professionals every day. With the book's well-organized framework for learning and emphasis on numerous industries, your students leave the course prepared for success, no matter what area of business they pursue.

There are several pages in the kindle version of this book that are "unavailable due to copyright restrictions." Since I haven't purchased the traditional format of this book, I couldn't say if these pages would help my understanding of the content or not. I'm reading this textbook on my PC because I don't have a kindle fire (my kindle is a keyboard style) and I didn't realize that I would be unable to access the content on my Kindle until after I purchased my textbook. That said, I am very disappointed in the search capabilities. I have always been able to search through my other kindle books easily. I cannot search this book for specific words or concepts, however. Overall, I wish I had just purchased this textbook in a traditional format. Amazon should have been more careful when digitizing this one!

This book explains financial statements in more detail than other accounting books. The focus of this text is on how to interpret and understanding the statements, not just building them. Many introductory courses skim over the deeper aspects of analysis.

This book begins with a few chapters on introduction, then goes into the balance sheet and income statement specifics. From there it goes into how to analyze financial statements in detail. This book is so thorough, but still easy-to-understand. The questions in the back of each chapter really make sure you understand the material it has laid out, and don't ask off-the-wall questions pertaining to some random, not really needed fact, like some other textbooks. Overall, I really have enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who has a little bit of accounting knowledge and wants to better understand financial statement analysis.

If you cannot afford the 13th edition..... buy this one. 90% of it has the exact same lessons in it.

Ok book dull subject matter. Overpriced

Could use more visual aids. Some ratios are not well explained. The ebook removed some of the financial statements due to copyright. Overall well done.

The text is well written, but extremely lengthy. Coming from an accounting background some of it is repetitive, but I think it is a thorough explanation for people who come from a non-accounting background as well.
This text, although an older edition, is not very readable, the text is very technical, and not enjoyable. If you are a teacher reading this review, pick a different text and save your students a headache.
