This book was extremely helpful to make me success in my chemistry class.
The exercises are based on the textbook, there is a glossary of each chapter and then exercises with explanations step by step and solutions. If you really want to success in your chemistry class you should go for it, is a low investment that can help you to get a great grade.
I totally recommend this book if you haven't taken chemistry in a long time or you are new at it.
If you're thinking about getting this, just do it! SO helpful to use as additional study material and it breaks everything sown for you.
Awesome text, very well written.
I have yet to pass judgment on this. I bought it hoping that it would shed insight to the companion book, but so far it has all the feel of a kids puzzle book. Some fun, but not what I was looking for.
I mainly needed this for assistance in solving chemical problems but I had to purchase another book at Barnes and Noble for that. I don't think I would get this if I had to do it all over again, but it did summarize the chapter if that is what you needed.
I originally received this book as a desk copy back in 2010. I was a first-year instructor for intro chem at a local junior college. Although I have a master's degree in the subject, I hadn't done any chemistry for eight years.
This study guide was a life saver for me. Each chapter distills the concepts down to their most important points. It works you through key problems, step by step, and helps you with vocabulary review. Some of the tools I found more helpful than others: for example I always did the multiple choice questions and the true/false section of each chapter. Less helpful to me was the crossword puzzle.

I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to learn or relearn the key concepts of introductory chemistry. Even without the Tro textbook this study guide would be helpful because it rewrites each skillbuilder exercise separate from the textbook. Then, it proceeds to work out each step of the solution and present the answer.

Clarity and simplicity summarize this study guide.

I recommend my students buy it as a supplementary study material, especially if they are having trouble with whatever textbook we are using.

Sheepishly, I use some of the diagrams from the Tro textbook as supplementary handouts in certain chapters- he is the only textbook author that adequately explains the concept of shape/polarity and electronegativity. The diagrams of shapes and their corresponding polarity are priceless. While this study guide does not provide those diagrams (you would have to get the text to get the diagrams), it is a wonderful summary of the important points in introductory chemistry.
