Portraiy of a Monster Wave. Doug Acton, Bruce Jenkins, Grant Washburn.

Sports columnist Bruce Jenkins and Maverick's surfer Grant Washburn have interviewed top big wave surfers Peter Mel, Zach Wourmhoudt, Evan Slater, and others to discuss every aspect of the freakish wave from the paddle out to the terrifying drop to the inevitable and brutal wipeouts

Portrait of a monster wave. The pit of my stomach dropped when the next wave sucked out in front of him. I’d surfed with John Raymond forever, and it felt like I was in there myself. He paddled for the first wave of the set, and missed it. It had been a spectacular session up to that moment, loaded with thrilling rides, but suddenly things had changed. It was Halloween 1992, one of the biggest days ever ridden, and the fun was over. I felt his pain and I saw his terror.

This was a piece of "eye candy" for one who loves the ocean. Over 125 stupendous photos of Maverick's from all angles, adding to the awe I already had for anyone with the "cajones" to paddle out there. These guys may seem to be run-of-the-mill surfers, but in my mind they are the superheroes of the sport. Great job. The comments from the surfers themselves are worth the entire book; but the photos are amazing!

This is a great coffee table book for those who enjoy surf and surfers. The photos are breathtaking and the enormity of the ocean's energy is respectfully recorded for we non-risk takers to try to fathom.

I have a fascination with Maverick's and this book really puts you in the thrill and awe of the wonderous force of these waves. Great coffee table book!!

Beautiful pictures of awesome Maverick's Monster Waves. My husband is a retired hippie surfer from California and talks about Maverick's all the time. He loved this book.

Every page of this book is filled with stunning photography of harrowing big wave surfing at Maverick's accompanied by stories about each photograph. It is about the best I've seen. I'm no expert but I've been a fan of big wave surfing for a long time. This book is almost too much like being there. It shows Mark Foo riding "the last wave of his life" and the book brings home how inconceivably dangerous big wave surfing is. My hat's off to them!

It's one thing to read the words "Sixty foot wave" and it's a whole other to see it. Page by page, Inside Mavericks documents and explains the mystery and wonder of this winter swell in northern California. The book has segments of interesting information written by surfers and enthusiasts who know Mav's best and continue to live it year after year, with pictures to accompany every written detail. This book is excellent for any one who loves surfing, or is simply captivated by men pushing the limits of nature.
Great and easy transaction
