This book rocks. It makes me want to fly to Rome, rent a car and spend about the next six months going from one agricturismo to the next. Unfortunately, since the book was published agriturismi have become quite trendy so watch out for the ones that offer spas and the like. Stick with the 'country'.

I purchased this book almost 2 years ago and find myself returning to it again and again for not only the original farm-to-table recipes, but for simple inspiration. The beautiful full-page photographs and stories of the farms, food, and people are enticing on their own. But the delicious and easy-to-deliver recipes are what really keep me coming back. The instructions are detailed and very user-friendly. In the recipe for Vegetable Soup with Ditalini Pasta, the first paragraph alone addresses how to cut, blanch and peel a plum tomato. I've made this soup for my son's school a couple of times and received many great reviews. I've also had great success with the Chocolate and Ricotta Tart, and the Barley with Dried Porcini Mushrooms -- a simple, healthy, original dish that even my seven year-old loves!

In originality and usefulness, "The Italian Farmer's Table" far surpasses all of the traditional pasta-filled Italian cookbooks on my shelf. The authors are gifted culinary instructors and storytellers and I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to cook up an authentic Italian homestyle dish, or simply enjoy (with a glass of chianti!) a colorful tour through the farms of the Northern Italian countryside.

I bought this book when it first came out and have since bought it again as gifts. This is a truly unique combination of a cookbook and a travel book. You can get the "agriturismi experience" by just reading the book, learning about people and places the authors visited, cooking their recipes and/or you can also do what we've done and retrace their steps. My wife and I have gone to Italy twice since buying this book and stayed at 11 of the agriturismi profiled. Everything we experienced exceeded our expectations! This book shows a truly unique, rewarding way to travel (and eat great food) in Italy that most Americans have yet to discover.

When ordering a "pasta" cookbook, this cookbook popped up as a suggestion. After reading about it (i.e. table of contents, a few recipes), I bought three! (one for myself, my daughter, and a friend.) We love it! It is enjoyable to just read, but the recipes have been just marvelous. The leek tarts are simply to die for. I could go on and on but instead will leave it with my highest recommendation!

I had put The Italian Farmer's Table on to my wishlist and kept longingly looking at it, wondering if it would be worth purchasing or not. I finally bit the bullet and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived at my home. Being of Northern Italian descent, I was not only enamored by the beautiful photographs, but the intimate stories and cherished recipes that these agriturismos shared with the authors. I have always wanted a core group of recipes from the region that my family descends, but it is difficult finding them online. With this book, you are afforded variety and substance with the many recipes they provide; there really is something for everyone. I am looking forward to making my way through all of the recipes in this book.

If you are a fan of travel, authentic recipes, beautiful photographs and endearing stories and lore, please pick up this book. It is well worth purchasing and makes a great addition to any home library.

I love this book. Full of complicated but nevertheless easy recipes, I have been using it as bedside reading. Since I live on a ranch in California and have recently come back from my first trip to Italy, this is a travelogue for me as well, reminding me of the universality of rural living and good food...OK, Italy is better than my podunk Northern California area. There is enough commentary about the region and visits to cheese makers, butcher shops, and accomodations from fancy lodges to humble farms to make it simply good reading. I wish it didn't have the matte-finish pictures now common in cookbooks...glossy is so much prettier. However, I'd recommend this book highly.

I loved the Southern Italian Farmers Table cookbook and have used it many times to liven up dinner throughout a long winter. I visited Northern Italy last summer and loved the food so this cookbook will be an added delight. Love the local lore with each region and have just started diving into the recipes. The challenge for me is to find some of the ingredients in my area but love the food that makes me smile.
After a spectacular trip to Italy this fall, where I enjoyed authentic and, in some cases, medieval Italian food (recipes from the 13th to 17th centuries) I searched for a way to replicate the culinary experience. The Italian Farmer's Table was the book recommended, and it is a winner. Besides giving recipes from soups to desserts, it also includes basic recipes such as gnocchi and pasta. And for foods not found or difficult to find outside of Italy (such as wild boar or a regional wine), the authors recommend substitutions. My goal is to try every recipe in the book! Bravissimo!
