While it is true that this book doesn't carry a description with it, which is rather odd given that it's been redone by the University of Virginia Press (originally published by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation), this is an excellent book for those scholars and cooks interested in food history. The author describes her book in these terms: "Readers interested in learning how colonial housewives managed to serve the elaborate meals that tradition ascribes to them must consult the historical sources. Collectors of antique cooking, too, want to know how all the pieces were used and how to arrange them in a working colonial kitchen. It is to these antiquarians and collectors that I address my study of the procedures in colonial cooking."

This book helped me get an A on my American History college final research paper. I found most of the information I needed.

An item missing from this author's posting is even a basic description of the contents of the book. The title gives the concept but examples or brief descriptions of some of the entries would be useful. When I have to choose between an unknown and something with a good description, you can guess what the choice will be.
