The next time I entertain, I will definitely utilize the recipes in this book to adorn my table. I love mediterranean food for its flavor as well as the health benefits of its ingredients. This book has much to offer to entertain mediterranean style with a mezze par excellence.
This cookbook has the healthiest recipes and are easy to put together. I love it!! My neighbor bought one for herself after seeing mine.
Joyce Goldstein's Taverna, has many different recipes and pictures of Casual dinning in the Mediterranean . The book also contains many stories about the food. A big drawback for me ,it is not kosher. She has many other kosher cookbooks out there. I just assumed since she was the author it would be kosher. It is not.
I bought this book to put aside as a Christmas gift for some friends, as I thoroughly enjoy Cantina - the Mexican cookbook from the same publisher. While the recipes are interesting and seem delicious, I was disappointed that it had too many meat recipes, and not enough vegan recipes, which is why I do not use this particular cookbook myself.
Break out the checkered table cloth and the ouzo. These recipes will put you in a sailor dancing, plate throwing mood. Not only Greek, but Portuguese and Turkish dishes are represented. The ones I tried were easy to follow and delicious, although they took some time to prepare. There is a nice introduction to the different taverna cuisines in the beginning, including basic recipes for some dips and munchies. My only complaint is that there are only 128 pages.
This book is a must in any domestic kitchen. It is easy to follow with beautiful, full colour photos for each dish. And the recipes are fool proof! Your dinner guests will be impressed each and every time!
