In Book One of the Westward Hearts series, orphans Fannie Caldwell and her two young siblings have spent the last three years as indentured servants under a cruel master. Desperately wanting a better life for her brother and sister, Fannie devises a plan to secretly join a wagon train heading west. Her plan immediately runs into trouble when the handsome yet bullheaded wagon master Blake Tanner refuses to allow an unmarried woman on the train.

Grant watched to see what Blake would do in this situation that was quickly becoming volatile. Barnabas Shewmate was typically an even-tempered young man, but his outburst spoke of fear-panic, even. Blake stood on the flap of his wagon, standing tall enough so that all the folks that had attended the meeting could see and hear. He raised both hands for silence. Now, listen up. A wonderful free Amazon kindle western historical romance book that I enjoyed so much that I read the entire book in one sitting. The characters showed their experiences good and bad on this wagon Train trip to be outstanding performances of suspense and surprise. I fully enjoyed the unexpected ways that they came together in the end. The wagon train had to fight Indians, outlaws, and cholera before settling down for the winter. A great book to read and enjoy.

I really enjoyed reading how God takes our worst mistake and makes it work for good. Sometimes we don't see the reason things happen but, God does. While reading about Ginger you can see clearly how Ginger ended up in the place she was so she could find God. By see how people lived who were believers she was able to see what she was missing. I loved Gingers spunky character. I read the whole series. When Ginger was introduced in the previous book I could hardly wait to read this book to see what her story was. Good job Tracey Bateman!

Loved this book. Loved this series. I will miss Blake and Fannie (book one) the most. They were my favorites, closely followed by Miss Saddie. Ginger and Grant had been through so much it was good that they had a happy ending.

I really loved the book and it came in excellent shape. It was just what I had hoped for. It was one of a three part story so I am glad I was able to find it.

Dangerous Heart by Tracy Bateman 4★
(Westward Hearts: Book 3)

Historical Romance and Christian Romance that had an actual nice plot. A Hallmark kind of book. I don't often read either historical romance or Christian fiction books. Dangerous Heart had a nice medium and some likeable characters. Tracy Bateman is a new-to-me author and I did jump the gun in reading the last book of this trilogy. I jumped because the heroine, Ginger, seemed more likeable for me. And she is. She's a strong woman who has grown up with her outlaw father and his gang. She doesn't swoon or blush profusely like other historical romance heroines I'm used to. She isn't a doormat either.

And the plot felt realistic. About prairie life on a westward-bound wagon train heading to Oregon. Along the way they encounter Ginger's dad and his gang. And then they have to worry about cholera and other dangers (like catching pneumonia if you want to take a bath in the open rivers or giving birth - especially with a doctor who is even praying to God for help because he doesn't know what to do).

And then there's drama with Ginger seeking revenge for her brother's death, and her dad and his gang's plans of robbing and such. It was a little predictable but it never bored me. I'm actually looking forward to reading the other two books now.
After reading the first two books of the "Westward Hearts"- "Defiant Heart" and "Distant Heart"- I was looking forward to the newest of the series, "Dangerous Heart." Ginger Freeman was introduced in the second book and was comedic enough to have her own little love story. Born to a leader of a shifty cowboy gang, she's determined to unleash her vengeance on Grant Kelley, the doctor who let her brother die in a stage coach robbery. A stage coach robbery that her pa initiated. Grant has his own issues; his wife died in that stage coach robbery and he's been mourning ever since. While he is prejudiced against the gang, he did treat the young man. Due to the young man's crimes, he was sent to prison and hadn't been able to contact his family since. Ginger discovers that Grant is traveling on a wagon train; her job is to join the train and kill the doctor. However, things don't go according to plan. She not only finds an adoptive family with the women there, she finds herself falling in love with Grant, and with the Savior that these kind people worship.
You can pretty much guess what happens next. After an abduction and a rescue, the heroine and hero set their problems aside and end up together. It was a good read, entertaining enough, but it just didn't measure up to the first two books. In "Defiant Heart" Fannie was such a strong, independent and remarkable heroine that you couldn't help but relate to her. And in "Distant Heart," your heart just broke for Toni, and her romance with Sam was bittersweet. Actually, "Distant Heart" was my favorite of the whole series.
As for "Dangerous Heart," it was a pleasurable book that kept me busy for a couple hours. I am looking forward to whatever Tracey Bateman comes up with next. She's one of those up and coming new authors who lends a fresh voice to the Christian fiction market.
