Virginia Golodetz' School Library Journal Editorial Review is simply awful. It sounds like she has taken a real school review about the Betsy series from 50 years ago and added her own cutting remarks such as "bland and predictable" "supposedly contemporary" and "but may disappoint those who already know that life is not so golden". WOW! What a disparaging review for such a great children's book author. The only thing disappointing about re-issuing Ms. Haywood's books is the new illustrations that go with them. Ms. Haywood's illustrations were beautiful and classic.

Carolyn Haywood's books hold up to the test of time. We are going through them again, and the kids still love them. I know of one 1st grade teacher that always reads "B is for Betsy" to her first grade class every year.

I just had to disagree with the School Library Journal's review. Jaded school teachers need to retire and stop feeding our children ugly stories that get so many awards now ... let's fill our children with good literature and beautiful stories such as the ones Ms. Haywood has given us.

I think this is a good book because it doesn't have mysteries and stuff, and anyone can read it. It's a good book to read in the summer because it has summer things in it and you can read some stories and save some stories for later. It's certaintly worth more than a penny!!!!!!!!
