Frog on a Log (Usborne Easy Words to Read Series). My 6 year old daughter brings home books from school to read with repetitive sentences and some difficult words (which she uses pictures clues to figure out). Sam Sheep Can't Sleep (Easy Words to Read). I'm sure this is helping her learn to read, but I can't help notice that she basically memorizes the book. Other easy readers have many 2 or 3 syllable words which she finds difficult to sound out. This is a great book for teaching some phonemes ("ou", "ack").

My 6 year old daughter brings home books from school to read with repetitive sentences and some difficult words (which she uses pictures clues to figure out). I'm sure this is helping her learn to read, but I can't help notice that she basically memorizes the book. Other easy readers have many 2 or 3 syllable words which she finds difficult to sound out. This is a great book for teaching some phonemes ("ou", "ack"). It uses lots of words with these phonemes to reinforce learning (ex: mouse, house, Mack, packs, black, backpack, etc). My daughter can read a few easy words (ex: go, to, and, she, etc). These books contain many of these along with words that repeat the same phoneme sounds. There are still some words too hard for her to figure out but without them, it might be difficult to write an interesting story. All in all, great books to teach reading to beginning readers. I would also recommend the Dick and Jane books (which use the same words over and over, but not using the repetitive sentence technique).

My granddaughter picked up this story and worked her way right through it. A wonderful experience for a new reader.

Love all Usborne books! My kids can actually read these books with confidence. They struggle to read so this phonics series is a must for any parent with same trouble.

We originally bought this for my two year old because we were moving and it looked like a nice related story. The storyline and words are simple and rhyming, and the illustrations are cute and leave a lot of room for added discussion. Each page includes a tiny little duck hidden in the pictures, which offers a fun little bonus game during or after the story. Also, the back page contains a list of the words used in the story, which my daughter likes us to go through so she can repeat. This is one of those books that you wish were longer once you've reached the end.

I needed a large stock of phonics books as my daughter loves reading but can't handle sight words on their own. This is one of 12 in a series, we got all of them used, all in great condition and with timely delivery (even from the UK). And my daughter loves them all, sweet stories connected by the same characters used in each book.
