Oracle9i for Tru64 systems can perform either synchronous or asynchronous I/O. To improve performance, Oracle Corporation recommends that you use asynchronous I/O. Set the DISK ASYNCH IO parameter to TRUE to enable asynchronous I/O. Oracle9i can use asynchronous I/O on an. .

Oracle9i for Tru64 systems can perform either synchronous or asynchronous I/O. Oracle9i can use asynchronous I/O on any datafiles that are stored on AdvFS file systems, clustered file systems (CFS), or raw devices.

Tim Donar, a real practitioner, knows how to use technology but he also understands the challenge of quickly implementing it without needing to refer to many books and manuals to do so. His knowledge and experience of deploying Oracle9i Real Application Clusters on a Tru64 UNIX cluster have been crystallized in this book, to help you jump start your clustered database environment. -Ken Jacobs, VP Product Strategy, Server Technologies, Oracle Corporation. Remarkable in its soup-to-nuts coverage of all aspects of putting together a Tru64 UNIX-Oracle9i cluster.

Oracle9i Real Application Clusters requires that you store Oracle datafiles on the Tru64 AdvFS file system.

1) for Compaq Tru64 UNIX. Oracle datafiles stored on a Tru64 UNIX AdvFS file system. Oracle Corporation supports CFS only on Tru64 UNIX . or later because this file system now supports a concurrent direct I/O model. Any node that has physical connectivity to a drive can issue data I/O to its file systems without consulting with the owning node. Oracle9i Real Application Clusters requires that you store Oracle datafiles on the Tru64 AdvFS file system. The disks that use the AdvFS file system must be physically connected to all computers running the Oracle instances.

The Tru64 UNIX-Oracle9i Cluster Quick Reference meets the needs of Tru64 UNIX system administrators everywhere.

Previously, Tru64 UNIX was a product of Compaq, and before that, Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), where it was known as Digital UNIX (originally DEC OSF/1 AXP). DEC's previous UNIX product was known as Ultrix and was based on BSD.

Now with the release of Oracle 9i Real Application Clusters (RAC) with the new Cache Fusion architecture based on an ultra-high bandwidth, low latency cluster interconnect technology, RAC cluster solutions have become more scalable without the need for data and application partitioning.

This quick reference provides step-by-step instructions on setting up Oracle9i RAC to run on a Tru64 UNIX cluster. Configuration information is included from start to finish. Command summary guides are built into each chapter for quick information retrieval. Examples and concise instructions assist in the complete installation of Tru64 UNIX 5.1A and Oracle9i. Designed as an introduction to Tru64 UNIX and Oracle9i RAC, Tru64 UNIX-Oracle9i Cluster Quick Reference will give intermediate and advanced administrators an invaluable resource for quickly locating vital information. Until now, setting up a Tru64 UNIX cluster running Oracle9i would involve referencing information from an entire shelf of books. Organizing this information into one source, Tru64 UNIX-Oracle9i Cluster Quick Reference simplifies the task of installation and makes a quick start possible with clear instructions and graphic illustrations. Command summary guides in each chapter serve as keys for fast information retrieval. Knowledge from over thirty references is distilled into this single book, seamlessly linking subject to subject for greatly simplified, quick installations. - Hardware Configuration Tips- StorageWorks HSG80 Setup Steps- UNIX Installation and Cluster Configuration- LSM/AdvFS Examples- Oracle9i RAC Installation, Database Configuration- Performance Tuning Tools, Backup, and Recovery

This reference guide covers everything from the installation of Unix to the installation of Oracle.
No longer does the average system administrator have to search through numerous manuals, it is all included in this one book. The book walks you through the process of setting up storage, Unix installation, and Oracle with just the right amount of information to get the job done.
I found it very easy to follow with real life examples of how to do everything.
I would recommend this book to anyone that is in the planning stages or has a running Tru64 Oracle9i Cluster now.

I am not even an Oracle admin, and I found this book to be one of my best resources. I am a Tru64 Unix admin, and this book is a super quick reference (as titled) for everything from disk controllers to system tuning. I love the clean, organized layout of the book, with a chart like summary of commands at the end of each chapter. One of the best computer books I own for sure.
