What is HTML?

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language.  HTML is the lingua franca for publishing hypertext on the World Wide Web. It is a non-proprietary format based upon SGML, and can be created and processed by a wide range of tools, from simple plain text editors - you type it in from scratch- to sophisticated WYSIWYG authoring tools. HTML uses tags such as <h1> and </h1> to structure text into headings, paragraphs, lists, hypertext links etc.

HTML Editors

There are literally hundreds of HTML editors on the market so which one do you use?  Well I'm afraid it all comes down to budget and personal preference so I have compiled a list of the most popular editors.  Most companies provide a 30 day trail version so you can "try-before-you-buy".

Microsoft FrontPage was discontinued in 2006.  It has now been replaced by Office Share Point and Expression Web.
