Domain Names
Once you have written all of your content, (or got a
professional to do it for you) you need to think of a domain
name. It helps your search engine ranking to use the most
important, and relevant key phrase as you domain name. (ie if
your site is about green bananas then the best domain name
would be something like www.green-bananas.com). Find the
best domain name for your web site by using a keyword research
tools.
Some people like to use
their company name as the domain name but if you are marketing
your site using search engines its is better to use a phrase
that people are searching for that is related to the product.
(People search more for a product or service than a company).
You will probably find that a key phrase with a high number of
hits is already taken but I have found a useful tool to help
you find alternatives. Go to
www.uk2.net and search for your key phrase, if the domain
name has been taken then click on “Alternative Energy” and a
list of suggestions will be produced. UK2 also provides other
useful tools for finding domain names such as brainstorming
and “Englishlookup”
TIP: Use hyphens to separate your words, as most search
engines treat hyphens as spaces and will index all words. If you do not separate the words
then most search engines will only index the first word it
recognises.
Before buying your domain name choose a hosting company
because most offer a free domain name with each hosting
package.
